About
Alexandra is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and an experienced yoga instructor and Ayurvedic practitioner. She uses an integrative-therapeutic approach that blends empirically-based treatment modalities alongside holistic tools. Alex is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy as well as other comprehensive approaches including breathwork, mindfulness, body meditations and Ayurvedic-lifestyle. Alex tailors treatment to each client’s specific personality traits, preferences, needs, and spiritual beliefs.
Alex has been working in the health field for over 10 years after graduating with a degree in Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine from Boston University in 2011. She has experience working with kids, teens, young adults, families, and individuals on a variety of issues including: trauma processing, mood dysregulation, anxiety, building self-esteem, strengthening social skills, LGBTQ issues, and gender identity. Prior to joining Brave Embodiment Counseling, Alex worked with underserved populations in community mental health for almost four years and has experience in multiple other settings including hospital emergency departments, the K-12 school district, and major research institutions.
Always interested in exploring healing, spirituality and the body’s connection to the mind, Alex began studying yoga philosophy and Ayurveda at the University of Texas in 2007 and later completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Black Swan Yoga in Austin, Texas. To deepen her understanding of human health behavior and how to influence health promotion on a larger scale, Alex completed a second master’s degree in Public Health at San Diego State University in 2015, where her research focused on childhood obesity and alcohol and drug studies.
Alex is a new mother and wife of a former Special Operator in the US Naval Armed Forces. She has a passion for the outdoors and spends much of her time with her family experiencing the rivers, trails, and mountains of Colorado and the American Southwest.
