Somatic Psychotherapy

Somatic psychotherapy (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy or Somatic Experiencing) is particularly helpful when working through present effects of past trauma and abuse, as well as healing from limiting belief systems about oneself and the world (for example: "I am not good enough" or "I am too needy"). In practice, there is no touch from the therapist involved unless the client is interested in appropriate supportive touch. The focus is on mindful awareness and shifts of body states, energy, and associative psychological beliefs - meaning in these sessions we focus on what is happening in your body when you approach a belief that is impactful, then use of body awareness and energy to move through the pain and find a more adult and adaptive perspective of the belief - thus releasing the limitations associated with the trauma, body state, and belief.

We offer virtual support on your schedule and in the comfort of your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each of our somatic therapists works slightly differently. A somatic session will involve discussing how old pain and patterns live in your body and then processing through awareness of your body and sometimes through physical movement to break out of the old pain and patterns.

  • Most of our society is very disconnected from their body most of the time. We exercise but don’t listen to what our body has to say about life, emotions, relationships, etc. We help you get in connection with your body so you can be present in life.

  • Yes. Somatic psychotherapy is based on neuroscience and how our brain stores trauma in the body. So the most effective and quickest route to healing trauma is through the body.
